Clean up on aisle five

What a big, sloppy mess.

Seems the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" has proven, yet once again, to be true.

Seems after upgrading the code, the forums and BMW photo gallery stopped working!

Then, upgrading the patch not only didn't fix the gallery or forum, but couldn't use my design. So now we're left with no gallery, no forum, and a design that just doesn't work for this site.

I'll go get a bucket and see what I can do about getting things cleaned up.

Thanks for your patience.

With a breaking heart - My '72 2002 is for sale

After 10 reliable years, I must say goodbye to my trusted steed -- a 1972 2002 BMW -- Chaminox with original black/blue interior.
Life, marriage, children, and work tend to dominate one's time. To the point where I've been unable to find the time to give the attention this classic piece of automotive history deserves.
 Cliff Notes:
The car runs strong. A lot of things work, and a lot of things don't. It's a great candidate for restoration. Although I'd hate to see this baby parted out - it could be a gold mine in parts.
 Location:
 Nashville, TN
 Photos:
 Photos posted here
 Details:
With exception of the carburator and 320i radiator, the '02 is all original.

Car was bought at auction so the number of owners is unknown as is the total mileage.
I have extensive and detailed records for anything and everything for the past 10 years.
Although the car is a "daily driver", I work from home so it gets driven less than 50 miles a week. I recently purchased second car so now the '02 doesn't get driven at all.

 Interior:
 All original.

 Back seat is perfect.
Front seats (bottom) have cracks. Dash has 1 crack in the center.
Carpet is in great shape (back) - needs replaced in front.
 Seat belts work.
Headliner is a little dirty but no rips.
Speedometer works but reads about 20mph under.
Odometer stopped working about a year ago.
Killer AM/FM CD player with amazing speakers (probably worth more than the car) : (2) under back seat and (2) tweeters in installed in center window supports.
Heater/Air motor works but the sound it makes is too annoying to use -- needs to be rebuilt.

 Exterior:

Rocker panels and shock towers are solid -- no rust.
Body and is pretty good but the rust is starting to set in. Two primary areas are the lip of the trunk lid and the top-back corners of the rear windows.
 (1) hood support needs replaced.
Trunk is in good shape - some rust under spare tire but does NOT need replaced.
Gas tank is solid (already replaced)
 Tires have plenty of tred
 Original rims and hubcaps!

 Mechanical
Like I listed earlier, the car runs good.

 Muffler needs replaced.
 Clutch is starting to go
 Brakes are good
 Headlights and brights work
Blinkers work but the control stalk is a bit finicky (you have to hold it in place)
Engine only leaks a tiny amount of oil.
 No other fluid leaks

Again, this is a great car for restoration with many great features just waiting to be polished.

BWM 2002 Photo Gallery is back online!

The 02fanatic site was recently switched to a new server -- which, as you may have noticed, really threw some wrenches into the work. After much cursing under our breath and two bottles of Tylenol, we have the photo gallery back up and running properly. Our next course of action is getting the calendar back online.

Thanks for your patience.

Another 02fanatic is born!

02fanatic is proud to announce the addition of a very special new BMW member; Madison Danielle!
She came off the assembly line June 23, 2003 (6 weeks ahead of schedule) with a total curb side weight of 4 lbs.,12 oz. and chasis length of 16.5". She handles like a dream and is seen here thinking about the 1972 2002 she'll one day inherit from her dad.

At only 13 days old, she has already received numerous awards including the prestigious "Best of Show" as voted by the nurses of the NICU. Now, the biggest question is, who knows the best way to install a baby seat in a '72 2002?

Mid-Atlantik '02 Fest IV

Greetings Fellow '02ers:
The date of our gathering of the "'02 Faithful" is again fast approaching (May 17, 2003). This year's event will again be held at the Carlisle Import-Kit/Replicar Nationals (May 16-18), on Saturday May 17th on the showfield. We will have our own tent and designated parking area. I have requested that we again be next to the Nittany Bimmers Chapter (BMW CCA). The BMWs are going to be "there in force" this year! The Nittany Bimmers cooked lunch for us last year…a pleasant surprise!
Last year we had 75 cars show up from as far away as Kansas City. This year I have no idea how many '02s will show up at this time, but whoever comes is guaranteed one thing…having a good time. I just want to update everyone on the planned activities. Here ya go:

As you could probably tell, the site hasn't had many additions of late - specially to the tech tips section. Well, sometimes life gets busy and we need to devote our time to the things we HAVE to do instead of to the things we WANT to do. But rest assured, more tips have been accumulating and will be added to the Tech Tips database shortly.

Mid-Atlantik 2002 spring drive - Update

April 26-27

Our original plans for a spring drive was to Monterey, VA. A gorgeous area with roads build for 02s. However, the inn in Monterey does not have enough rooms to accommodate us.

Therefore, we are planning another destination on the same weekend in the same area. The destination will be close to Monterey, VA, which is in the east central part of Virginia, close to the West Virginia border. This area is near the Cass Scenic Railway, Seneca Rocks, Blackwater and Canaan Valley State Parks.

MINI voted best Import Car 2002-2003 in Japan

AutoWorld.com - David S

AutoWorld.com - At this year's Car Of The Year (COTY) award in Japan, MINI has scored highest among imported cars. Among 49 entries by 18 domestic and foreign automobile manufacturers MINI was placed fourth.
This year for the first time Japanese and imported cars were judged together. Also, competition was extremely tough because cars of different size, concept, and price were put against each other.

The Barber Motorsports Park opening in early 2003 will be the new home of The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. The Museum, which was founded in 1994, has been one of Birmingham's best kept secrets, but that will change once it has relocated in March. The Collection of over 750 motorcycles and 45 cars is the largest collection in the United States and possibly the world. There are bikes from 17 nations with 125 manufacturers represented.
